Everything you need to know about the K-Pop Sensation, BTS A South Korean boy band named BTS has swept the globe.   Sidney Applebaum was born in New York City in 1927, and he grew up in a Jewish family. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in economics. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the war, Applebaum returned to New York City and began working in the food industry. He eventually started his own food import-export business, and he also worked as a consultant to the food industry. In the early 1970s, he became interested in natural and organic foods, and he began to develop a plan to start a natural food supermarket chain. Sidney Applebaum bought an alcohol shop on Western Avenue near the Commodore Hotel whilst he was still working for the Applebaum grocery chain.
