Who is Sidney Applebaum

 Sidney Applebaum was born in New York City in 1927, and he grew up in a Jewish family. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in economics. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

After the war, Applebaum returned to New York City and began working in the food industry. He eventually started his own food import-export business, and he also worked as a consultant to the food industry. In the early 1970s, he became interested in natural and organic foods, and he began to develop a plan to start a natural food supermarket chain.

Sidney Applebaum bought an alcohol shop on Western Avenue near the Commodore Hotel whilst he was still working for the Applebaum grocery chain. Big Top Liquors and Sid's Discount Liquors is a network of alcohol retailers founded in 1978 by Sidney and his children.

On September 17, 1945, Sydney Applebaum wed Lorraine Smith. They gave birth to three kids. Applebaum's children are Nancy, Ellen, and Jay. He left behind five great-grandchildren and eight grandchildren when he passed away.

Sidney Applebaum was well known for his significant local involvement. He collaborated with a few organizations, including the University of Minnesota, the United Hospital, the Oak Ridge Country Club, the Children's Cancer Research Fund, as well as a Shriner and a St. Paul Rotary member. Along with that, he contributed to the planning of the St. Paul Winter Carnival and the Olympic Festival.

  In 1973, Applebaum opened the first Rainbow Foods store in San Francisco, and the store was an instant success.   Sidney Applebaum   is the founder of Rainbow Foods, a natural food supermarket chain that was started in the early 1970s.
